Asa was born from a shared love of connection—of good coffee, intentional cocktails, and the kind of conversations that stretch long into the night. Named in honor of Asa Mercer, the island’s namesake, the word “Asa” also carries meaning in the West African Yoruba language: to convene, to gather, to exchange power, energy, and ideas. It’s this duality—local roots and global resonance—that inspires everything we do.

We opened our doors with one simple intention: to create a space where people feel at home. Whether it’s your morning ritual or your favorite place to unwind after dark, Asa is here for all the in-between moments that make life full.

Our Story
Founders Hill Harper and Mizan Howard met right here on the Island in 2019. From day one, they dreamed of a space that blended community, culture, and creativity. Their shared background—one an Ethiopian refugee, the other a long-time Island local—infuses Asa with a global heartbeat and hometown soul. After years of dreaming, planning, and more Boon Boona coffee than they can count, Asa finally came to life in 2024.
What started as a spark between two friends has grown into a living, breathing gathering place for neighbors, creatives, entrepreneurs, and families alike.
